Catastic

Happy Halloween!

This great image of a harmless, little, black kitty is a detail from how to draw cats found at the Graphics Fairy.

It is bad luck to have a black cat cross your path. However, if you are a mouse the opposite is true.

Spooky Spirits

Target knows grownups like treats too.

Not too far from the candy corn, snack-sized Snickers bars, and dreaded Bit-O-Honey, is a carefully selected grouping of Halloween-themed wines. Mostly blood red of course.

That 5:00-7:00 trick-or-treating time can get awfully long without a little sustenance so stock up.
Grab some cheese and crackers too.

Oh, and don't forget the candy. Although it's been done...raiding the pantry for cans of corn and the like is not all that popular with the kids.

Smell My Feet

More holiday themed printables from A Pair of Pears in collaboration with The Sweetest Occasion.

And look at this...we did a little culinary experimenting and came up with a whole new variation of the candy corn and peanut taste treat sensation. Yes, we added M and Ms. Genius time!
How do we do it?

Sweet, Salty, and Spooky

Treat bag toppers generously shared by A Pair of Pears for you to download and use
for your favorite Halloween munchies.

Here is an official recipe for this tasty seasonal combo. Gosh, we set the timer for the estimated 10 minute prep time and when we hit stop 9 minutes and 10 seconds remained.
It would be interesting to see if in slow-mo one could actually drag out the process for 10 whole minutes. We'd like to see that.Well, hmmm, maybe not really.

And the Answer is...

189 trick or treaters and 9 bags of candy.

Every year we try to count then lose focus. This year the less distractable one of us got the job done. Good costumes. Great weather. Lots of fun.

Yes, it was scary for awhile when we thought we might run out of candy. It was even scarier to think we might not have any candy leftover - for the first time in nearly a quarter century we have no kids' bags to raid or any possibility of scoring cast-off coconut-filled chocolate bars. A frightening new era just snuck right up on us!

Don't Go After Dark

When the moon is out and the shadows are long and eerie...

This could be a haunted mansion with wispy woman high atop the widow's walk calling for her sweetheart lost at sea...

It might be wise to keep driving even if this place on the edge of town has the only "Vacancy" sign...

Better to be called chicken than to accept a doubledogdare to run through the cemetery when the birches in the moonlight look like witches' fingers in the sky ...

But even in the light of day don't go to the most frightening place in town...

The abandoned, flowerless greenhouse...Oooooooh...horrifying beyond belief...

Still the Life of the Party

If you're not quite ready for that big Halloween party tonight here is a quick-as-a-wink Halloween decorating project from The Graphics Fairy. Just save, print, cut, and paste some weird eyeballs onto your framed friends, family, and other anonymous or famous folk to create custom, creepy decor.

That Old Abe always did know how to get the party started.

Update: "The Sisters" nextdoor are onboard. That's the kind of Halloween spirit(s) we like to see.

Seedy Business

Here's an image that would be a good start for a fetching seasonal project. Place cards for Thanksgiving? Gift tags for a loaf of pumpkin bread or a bag of roasted seeds? Holiday card?

Courtesy of The Graphics Fairy.

And here is a healthy alternative to eating candy stolen from kids' trick or treat bags (or something to munch on until they go to bed). The little tricksters could probably use some fiber to go along with the sugar too.

ROASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS

Pumpkin seeds
2 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2-1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
Salt

Wash seeds thoroughly to remove as much slime as possible. Leaving some is fine. Spread seeds on paper towel to dry for a day or at least over night. Mix together all other ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, pour mix over seeds and stir until well covered. Lay seeds out in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 hours.
