These may look like bingo cards, but they are really for identifying and collecting calico buttons that were produced in the 19th century to match popular dress fabrics of the time. The bingo moment is finding a new button to add to the card. The only prize is the satisfaction of collecting as many of the over 300 patterns as possible.
A very generous button club member gave me all of her duplicate calico buttons and these cards to help get me started. It is very pleasant to spend time looking, sometimes squinting, at these charming little objects.
